both / and

Manifesto

What can you expect when you engage both / and, and what do we look for in our partners and projects? In a world where competency and credentials are the baseline, we’re built to be different.

Here’s the both / and manifesto: Our commitments to you.

We put our money where our method is.

Culture is what an organization does, not what it publishes—and that applies to us first. No swag, no photogenic events, no social media shenanigans.

We focus our energy on work that produces tangible outcomes rather than performative marketing.

We invest in the communities we serve and the causes (education, inclusion, accessibility) that reflect our expertise and commitment, not in visibility for its own sake.

We put our money where our method is.

Founded by two multidisciplinary humans, we draw our approach, viewpoints, and values from the lived experiences and cultural influences that shaped us.

That mix is the engine that lets us see what others miss.

We are courageous in our curiosity.

What if? Why? What’s really underneath?

Three questions that frame our thinking and output, underpinned by a bold willingness to challenge, discover, reframe, and empower.

We are sharp and kind.

Sharp means being attuned to what’s said and silent.

Kind means we tell you the truth, even when it’s hard.

When you work with us, you leave with a trusted and clearer vision, a method your people can run, and a change that holds after we're gone.

We don't sell you a tool.

We help you choose the right team and tools for the task. We hold ourselves to a strict policy of independence.

Every recommendation is for your benefit, not ours. Judgment, experience, user-centric analytical thinking, and creativity are the only things we sell.

We expect something of you, too.

This is the only principle here that isn't a promise. We ask because the work only lands when we are embedded with the people who own the outcome.

  • Candor when it's inconvenient.

  • Real authority in the room, not a proxy.

  • Willingness to hear a diagnosis you didn't commission, or an opportunity you didn’t expect.
